In Armenia, a 29-year—old citizen of Georgia, Georgy Kinoyan, was released from prison (according to the Armenian media - Kinoyan. — EADaily), whose extradition was sought by the Russian authorities, said civil activist Georgy Tumasyan, the Georgian Pirveli TV channel reports.
"Georgy Kinoyan is free! Armenia refused to extradite him to Russia because it would be dangerous for him," Tumasyan claims.
Earlier, the brother of the released Vako Kinoyan told reporters that a court in the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced Georgy to seven years in prison for participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine. After that, on September 3, the man was detained on the territory of Armenia.
"Armenia made an unprecedented decision and released him directly from the hands of Russia," rejoiced the brother of the Georgian mercenary.
The media note that an agreement on mutual legal assistance is in force between Tbilisi and Yerevan, but the document does not regulate the extradition of citizens who have been detained at the request of third countries. The Georgian authorities did not ask Armenia to refuse Russia's extradition of Kinoyan.
As EADaily reported, on October 6, the Armenian Interior Ministry announced that a second native of Georgia, who fought on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was put on the international wanted list by Russia, had been detained. Vano Sabashvili was detained in early September at the entrance from Georgia to Armenia, later arrested by a court decision. Prior to that, he was convicted in Russia for participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine and sentenced in absentia to imprisonment. The issue of extradition must now be resolved by the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office.
