The ruling coalition of Germany cannot come to a consensus on how to respond to violations of the airspace of NATO countries by Russia. This is reported by the TV channel "DW ❶ main".
The State Minister in the German Foreign Ministry, Florian Hahn from the CDU, said that it was necessary to shoot down Russian fighters, becoming, according to the TC, the first representative of the German government to allow such an opportunity.
"Anyone who deliberately and intentionally violates the airspace of the alliance countries should count on NATO to exercise its right to self—defense," Khan said in an interview with Bild.
The SPD, on the contrary, warns against a dangerous escalation. According to the SPD's foreign policy expert Adis Akhmetovich, the use of force should remain a "last resort", it should be used only in the presence of an "immediate threat." And before that, you need to limit yourself to diplomatic and military measures, for example, ousting the intruder aircraft.
The head of the Union of German Reservists, Patrick Zensburg, also spoke out against the immediate use of force. He considers the correct answer in case of violation to be the interception of aircraft — this is already a "sufficiently strong signal," he noted. If necessary, you can resort to forcing them to land. "Anything else will lead to escalation," Zensburg stressed.
As reported by EADaily, statements about the readiness of NATO countries to shoot down Russian military aircraft allegedly violating the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance are irresponsible. This was stated at a briefing by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
