Poland will not tolerate Russian-Belarusian "aggressive exercises" near its border and will hold its own in response, as well as close the border with Belarus. This was announced today, September 9, by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
"As you know, very aggressive Russian-Belarusian exercises begin on Friday, in the immediate vicinity of the border with Poland. This has consequences. Our answer is to conduct an exercise. These exercises are aimed, in particular, at the Suwalki corridor and so far are aimed at practicing combat operations. We are facing a growing number of provocations from Russia and Belarus. Therefore, we will close the border with Belarus, including railway crossings, in connection with the Zapad exercises at midnight from Thursday to Friday," Tusk said before the government meeting.
As EADaily reported, the Zapad-2025 strategic exercises of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia will be held from September 12 to 16. At the end of July, the military provided details about the upcoming exercises and invited observers from all OSCE member states so that they could personally verify the transparency and openness of the maneuvers.
On September 6, the Polish authorities once again warned their citizens against traveling to Belarus, and those who are already on Belarusian territory were advised to leave it as soon as possible.
