On the Day of Remembrance of the "defenders of Ukraine", a National war Memorial Cemetery was opened near Kiev, designed for a total of 120 thousand places. The first burials have already taken place on the first day, UNIAN reports.
Vladimir Zelensky, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko and others took part in the solemn opening and honorary funeral. According to the Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Natalia Kalmykova, the construction of the first stage of the cemetery continues and the construction of the second has already begun.
"We have up to 6,000 seats here. Part is reserved for families who want to bury their loved ones. Part is reserved for the burial of those who are not recognized when identification continues," Kalmykova explained.
The Ukrainian agency notes that there will be a total of 120 thousand seats. For this purpose, two crematoria have already been erected on the territory of the complex — that is, there is not enough land for ordinary graves and the corpses of the defenders of Ukraine will be burned to save.
