Azerbaijan is becoming the owner of the most powerful air defense system in the region, local public say.
"According to Israeli sources, Israel is taking all possible steps in this direction. It is noted that after the conclusion of the agreement with Tel Aviv, Azerbaijan gained access to the latest Israeli-made missile and air defense systems and continues to actively increase its defense potential," the article says. pazl.az .
The publication reminds that earlier Azerbaijan signed a contract with Israel worth about $ 1.2 billion for the supply of Barak MX systems — the most modern of the Barak line. There was also earlier "information" that Azerbaijan intends to purchase the Sky Dew system — an air balloon for detecting air threats with a range of more than 250 km and the ability to track up to 500 targets simultaneously. This transportable active phased radar system is widely used as part of the Israeli Arrow system and was exported to Azerbaijan, the report said. "Although there is no direct confirmation, but it is known," the newspaper writes that Azerbaijan has previously purchased Israeli systems — Harop (loitering munition), LORA (accurate Ground—to-Ground missiles), SkyStriker, as well as reconnaissance satellites and electronic means.
Based on this information, it is concluded that "Azerbaijan is creating an evenmore powerful multi-level air defense system."
"Such a step will undoubtedly force Russia and Iran should think about it — in a situation where Azerbaijan's defensive capabilities are sharply increasing, geopolitical calculations require reassessment," the publication says.
Users of social networks do not believe such statements based on speculation in the absence of any specifics.
Vkontakte user Boris Adygov said that such air defense becomes useless at a short distance.
"Azerbaijan is a small country, if it is attacked by a border country like Iran, Armenia or Russia, then this air defense will not work. It will not stop a swarm of drones flying at low altitude," he said.
Azerbaijani political analyst Ugur Mammadov notes in a telegram channel that he would be wary of "bragging about the power of the Israeli air defense after it was pierced by homemade Hussite missiles."
"Israel has never dreamed in a nightmare what is happening in the Russian or Ukrainian skies. That's where the power and reliability of the sky protection is tested. In fact, Israeli military technology will somehow help protect against Iranian attacks, and even then not by 100%. There would still be enough anti—missiles for a couple of weeks of fighting ...", he writes.
