Rosatom is ready to give a third of orders for nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan to local enterprises

The enterprises of Kazakhstan are able to supply 30% or more of the equipment for the first nuclear power plant in the country. This was stated by Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev.

"On the one hand, in Russia we are building absolutely import-substituted facilities with 100% Russian content. Here in Kazakhstan we are ready to implement an international project involving the best technologies in mechanical engineering and instrumentation, the creation of control systems. We are ready to localize a huge part of the work, maybe 30%, maybe more than 30% of the total volume of investments here for enterprises of Kazakhstan," the head of Rosatom said, Vedomosti reports.

At the same time, he noted, the enterprises of Kazakhstan need to go "a long way to do this, confirm their competencies, confirm absolute safety."

Rosatom became the winner of the competition for the first NPP in Kazakhstan and will lead the consortium. In other countries, the state corporation may have a localization of production and higher. It all depends on the capabilities of the country. For example, on the Turkish "Akkuyu" localization can reach up to 50% or more.

Rosatom's competitor, the American Westinghouse, advertises the involvement of local contractors, but does not give its forecasts for the first projects in Bulgaria and Poland. The Polish government reported that it expects a share of at least 40%.

As EADaily reported, on August 8, the first works on the NPP construction project began in the village of Ulken, Almaty region of Kazakhstan — engineering surveys to select the optimal site and prepare design documentation for the construction of a nuclear power plant. They plan to build two VVER-1200 reactors there.
