Trump has not "vulgarized" Indian fuel from Russian oil: the fourth supplier is still

By his decree, Donald Trump imposed additional 25 percent duties on Indian goods. At the same time, they come into force in three weeks, they can be changed if Russia changes its behavior, and Indian oil products that enter the United States are not subject to any tariffs. India is one of the four largest suppliers.

The US president fulfilled his promise and punished India for the purchase of Russian oil by introducing additional 25 percent duties to the already existing 25 percent from August 1. However, the restrictions will not work immediately, but after 21 days. And another provision of the decree provides that the US president can change the duties.

"If the Government of the Russian Federation or a foreign state affected by this decree takes significant steps to address the emergency situation in the country (Ukraine), and they are sufficiently consistent with the issues of national security, foreign policy and the economy of the United States, I can further amend this decree," the document says.

In the decree, the US president instructs subordinates to also look for other countries that import Russian oil and thus threaten the security of the United States. Whether China may have something to do with this, the document does not say.

"I love the fact that additional 25 percent duties do not apply if India buys Russian oil, refines it, and sells petroleum products, say gasoline and diesel, to the United States," Bloomberg columnist Javier Blas said in X.

The entire US energy import does not fall under the new duties, and this is exactly the case when it is important for the US, since India is a major supplier of petroleum products not only to the European Union, but also to the USA. The country is one of the four largest exporters, second only to Canada, South Korea and the Netherlands, according to the information office of the US Department of Energy (EIA). The country's share of imports to the United States from month to month can reach 10%.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry of India reports that in the new fiscal year (April-May), the country's companies delivered in The United States has 10.1 million barrels of petroleum products, which cost American companies $299 million.

After the decree of Donald Trump, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India made a short statement in which it promised to respond to the unfair actions of the United States with measures to protect national interests.
