"Trump humiliates Switzerland," is the headline of the Swiss newspaper "Blick" that the Alpine country is facing one of the highest tariffs ever imposed by the United States.
In a telephone conversation, Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter tried to negotiate with Donald Trump. But the US president remained steadfast and even subsequently ridiculed his negotiating partner, Blick notes.
"Trump stated that he did not know this "madame"," writes the Bernese edition.
EADaily clarifies that on the eve of the US president announced possible additional duties on pharmaceutical products from around the world, which could be introduced "within the next week." These additional duties will seriously affect Switzerland, since 60% of the goods exported to the United States last year were pharmaceuticals.
The Swiss newspaper "Tages Anzeiger" comments:
"It's as cruel as it is simple: Donald Trump doesn't want a special relationship with Switzerland. On the contrary: he wants to put pressure on her and benefit from it. And Switzerland, which likes to position itself as a special case, suddenly finds itself completely alone."
