The Kremlin is considering possible concessions to US President Donald Trump, including an air truce with Ukraine, to prevent the threat of secondary sanctions, although it remains determined to continue the war. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to one of the sources, a pause in air strikes using drones and missiles as a gesture of de-escalation could be one of the potential proposals, provided that Ukraine also "signs up."
"Nevertheless, President Vladimir Putin will not agree to a general cease-fire on Ukraine, as its troops continue to steadily advance on the battlefield, and Russia's military objectives remain unchanged. It is unclear whether any proposal for restraint will include conditions that actually make it unacceptable for Kiev and its allies," the agency reports.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that his special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to go to Russia on Wednesday — for the fifth time this year, and the Kremlin said that a meeting with Putin could take place. The American leader is threatening to impose high tariffs from Friday for countries, including China and India, which buys Russian oil and other goods to increase pressure on Putin.
Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg is expected to visit Kiev at the end of this week, where he will meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Monday, citing a source in the president's office.
