A Polish general with a Russian surname, Miroslav Polyakov, has been appointed deputy chief of Staff of the NATO Joint Armed Forces Command for operations in Europe.
The main Command of operations of the NATO Air Force is located at the headquarters near the Belgian city of Mons. It is this headquarters that is responsible for all operations of the Alliance from the Strait of Gibraltar to Afghanistan. Therefore, the Polish media today are delighted with the appointment of Polyakov.
"The appointment to such a prestigious position is not only a recognition of the experience of General Polyakov, but also a confirmation of Poland's growing position in NATO structures," writes portal-mundurowy.pl .
Miroslav Polyakov's career includes service in The Polish military contingent in Kosovo, the Polish-Lithuanian peacekeeping battalion and in the Center of hostilities in Stavanger, Norway. From 2008 to 2009, he commanded the Polish military contingent in Afghanistan, and then served in Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
