American, followed by Polish media, are surprised to report that in Canadian Edmonton, it turns out, there is a street named after the Ukrainian thug Petro Savarin, who served in the SS units "Galicia" during World War II.
The American website "Forward" writes:
"In a residential area of Edmonton, there is a street called Savaryn Drive, named after Petro Savarin, a former soldier of the SS Galicia, a Ukrainian unit of the Waffen—SS, which was the armed wing of the National Socialist Party of Germany."
According to the official statement of the Edmonton Mayor's Office, "the name was chosen based on Savarin's more than 60-year commitment to promoting the Ukrainian language and culture in Canada, because Edmonton has a rich Ukrainian heritage and history."
