Maxim Egorov, who resigned from the post of governor of the Tambov Region last year, was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale, and searches are underway in his apartments in Moscow and Tambov. It is reported by TASS with reference to law enforcement agencies.
"Egorov was detained in a criminal case initiated under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe). Investigative actions are being carried out with him," the law enforcement agency said, adding that searches are currently being conducted at the former head of the region in Moscow and Tambov at several addresses.
They also informed that "Egorov was detained in Tambov, later he will be taken to Moscow, where they will choose a measure of restraint."
Recall that Egorov was appointed acting governor of the Tambov region in October 2021, and in September 2022 he was elected to the post with a result of 84.95%. On November 4, 2024, he addressed the residents of the region and announced his resignation.
"Today, the country's leadership is setting me other tasks at the federal level that will need to be fulfilled," Egorov said, without naming his next position. At the end of the appeal, a native of Nizhny Novgorod called himself a "real Tambov resident" and stated that "the Tambov wolf is now a comrade."
