The European Union has made an important decision regarding gas boilers in the households of the member countries of the association. In a few years, installing them at home will not be so easy. Details are given by the publication Gazeta.Pl .
The EU intends to completely abandon the use of fossil fuels in the coming years. This is part of the plan to achieve zero emissions and complete decarbonization of the housing stock by 2050. There are two important dates ahead — 2030 (gas boilers will still be allowed to be installed in new and fully modernized buildings, but only in combination with renewable energy sources) and 2040 (complete abandonment of the use of fossil fuels in heating systems). However, the interpretation of the concept of "fossil fuels" in the context of gas boilers is questionable.
At the end of June, a directive was issued stating that the European Union "defines fossil fuels as non-renewable carbon-based energy sources such as solid fuels, natural gas and crude oil." "Renewable fuels", in turn, include biofuels, bio-liquids, biomass fuel and renewable fuels of non-biological origin. This means that devices based on these energy sources can be installed without restrictions in new buildings with zero emissions after 2030.
