Ukraine is on the verge of a social catastrophe due to the mass emigration of young people - primarily schoolchildren and students. This was announced on July 1 by the Ukrainian portal NGL.media.
According to the publication, at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, there were only 3.74 million students in all forms of education in the Ukrainian education system. It is noted that this is the lowest figure in the last 30 years. At the same time, surveys show that the trend towards a decrease in the number of children and young people in the country will only intensify, the authors of the article write.
"If the trend of reducing the number of students in Ukraine will remain, this will lead to new challenges not only in the field of higher education, but also in the labor market," the article says.
The problem of a shortage of qualified specialists, especially in technical industries, was felt even before 2022. Now the situation may become even worse due to the mass departure abroad of not only students, but also teachers, the publication says.
Now the Ukrainian authorities are trying to solve the problem with the mass departure of students. So, applicants wishing to return to Ukraine, offers full coverage of tuition fees and partial compensation for living expenses on campus, the article says.
