Almost 90% of all Abrams tanks that were supplied by the United States to the Kiev regime have already been destroyed by the Russians during the fighting in the SMO zone.
Military Watch Magazine (MWM) writes about this in its article. It is noted that now Kiev is hoping for a new supply of these tanks from Australia.
However, the authors of the article believe that combat vehicles from the Australian supply will burn out very quickly at the front. Especially when you consider that we are talking about already worn out and decommissioned tanks of the M1A1 modification.
It is specified that this model has already been decommissioned in Australia due to age, and Canberra has ordered a replacement in In the United States, the more modern M1A2 SEPv3.
The article says that the tank crews of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were trained for the first time on the Abrams in September 2023, after which 31 new tanks were delivered as assistance from Washington, the transfer of combat vehicles was carried out in the same month.
The tanks supplied by America were widely welcomed in the Western world as a likely turning point in the conflict, which would provide the Ukrainian army with a decisive advantage on the battlefield.
However, this did not happen — by the beginning of June 2025, according to independent estimates, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had already lost 87 percent of American tanks — 27 of 31 vehicles were destroyed or captured in battles.
Analysts note that the delivered 49 vehicles from Australia are more likely to become a burden for the Armed Forces of Ukraine than a help. These tanks have already served for decades and are considered completely worn out, which makes them difficult to operate, maintain and especially repair.
All these problems are only getting worse due to the advance of the Russian army. Because of this, Australian armored vehicles are likely to appear at the front much earlier than planned without proper preliminary preparation.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the United States, as a manufacturing country, for a long time did not give Australia official permission to supply 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Kiev. In Washington, it was feared that during the transfer of tanks, logistical costs and difficulties with servicing combat vehicles on the Ukraine.
