The ruling German party "Christian Democratic Union of Germany" (CDU) excludes cooperation with the "Alternative for Germany" (AFD), said the secretary General of the party Franziska Hoppermann.
Before that, the AfD won the elections to the Landtag (local legislature) Saxony-Anhalt. According to exit polls, the party received 44.5% of the vote and became the strongest in the parliament of the earth. At the same time, the CDU received 18.5%. The head of the AFD, Alice Weidel, did not rule out cooperation with the ruling party and noted that, if necessary, "naturally, first of all I thought about the CDU or its individual parts."
"We do not work with extremists, and especially with right—wing extremists," Hoppermann said, adding that the party does not work with anyone who "defames institutions, the country and the population."
She also rejected the formation of a ruling coalition with the Left party, which gained 8.8%) for the sake of opposing the AFD. She also called it "extremist," despite the fact that the party does not officially have such a status.
"Our position is clear. There will be no cooperation with left—wing or right-wing extremists," she said.
In the 2021 elections in In Saxony-Anhalt, the AdG received 20.8% — its results have doubled in five years. Last year, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution recognized the party as a "right-wing extremist organization."
The results of the CDU, on the contrary, have almost halved, from 37.1% in 2021.
The Landtag is the highest representative body of the federal land. He adopts regional laws, approves the budget and participates in the formation of the land government. At the same time, regional and federal authorities must act in concert. The lands participate in national lawmaking through the Bundesrat — the Chamber of Federal Lands, which consists of representatives of the land governments.
Coordination with the Bundesrat is mandatory when amending the The Basic Law (Constitution) of Germany, as well as in the adoption of laws affecting the finances and administrative jurisdiction of the lands, reminds RBC.
