Lists of new potential victims were found in the house and car of a suspect in the murder of a Democratic deputy, a member of the state House of Representatives Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, 57-year-old Vance Luther Bolter, CNN reports citing sources.
Bolter is a resident of Sibley County in Minnesota. The murder occurred in nearby Hennepin County on the night of June 14. At the same time, another Democratic politician, state Senator John Hoffman, was injured, and his wife was also injured. The police believe that Bolter is involved in both crimes. For information about him, the FBI announced a reward of $ 50 thousand.
Sibley was being searched. During them, the police found lists of other potential victims, mostly Democrats. In the first list, which was found in the car, there were 70 names, in the one that was found at Bolter's house, more than a dozen new faces were named.
The Wall Street Journal writes that the lists also included those who support women's rights to abortion. A friend of Bolter told CNN that the man opposed abortion. They are not banned in Minnesota.
The suspect got into Hortman's house, posing as a policeman. He shot the deputy and her husband at point-blank range. Shortly before that, he came to the Hoffmans, where he also opened fire.
The police were close to catching the Bolter after the murder of the Hortmans: the shooter was discovered when he was leaving their house, but the man opened fire on the police and was able to escape.
Bolter has worked with Hoffman in the past, CNN points out.
The governor of the state Tim Waltz (he was a vice presidential candidate paired with Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections) called the incident a "politically motivated murder," RBC said.
