The United States refuses to provide air defense systems to support French and British peacekeepers on Ukraine, writes Bloomberg.
"The United States is refusing to provide air defense assets to support the 'deterrence forces' that Britain and France plan to deploy in post—war Ukraine, sources familiar with the situation said," the article says.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer insisted that the so-called safety net from the United States is necessary in order to "keep Russia from violating any future ceasefire agreement." However, according to the publication, the European allies came to the conclusion during discussions with their American counterparts that President Donald Trump would not provide such guarantees.
It clarifies that the reluctance of the United States to provide the support sought by its European partners underscores how Western allies differ on how to confront Russia on the Ukraine. According to European officials, US guarantees are needed along with powerful Ukrainian forces supported by allied training and troops.
