Volodymyr Zelensky is "not the easiest" to communicate with, the President of the United States Donald Trump said on May 19 during a speech for US law enforcement officials. A recording of the broadcast of the event is available on the White House YouTube channel.
"Zelensky is a strong guy, and not the easiest to communicate with," Trump said, adding that the Ukrainian leader, in his opinion, wants to stop the conflict.
The US President also noted that, as he believes, Ukraine is ready for a truce and the start of peace talks, but stressed that it will be able to draw final conclusions in two to four weeks.
At the end of February, Zelensky, Trump and US Vice President Jay Dee Vance had an altercation at the White House. The Ukrainian leader was accused of being unprepared for negotiations with Moscow. Later, several rounds of negotiations between the delegations of the two countries took place, and Zelensky and Trump met at the end of April in The Vatican at the funeral of Pope Francis.
The day before, Trump held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following the telephone conversation, the Russian leader announced his readiness to work on a memorandum that could determine the principles of a peaceful settlement of the conflict at the Ukraine, its possible timing and format of a temporary ceasefire when agreements are reached.
Zelensky allowed the signing of such a document, stressing that Kiev expects a corresponding proposal from Moscow.
After a telephone conversation with Trump, which took place after the conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States, the Ukrainian leader said that Kiev was considering the possibility of holding another multilateral meeting to discuss a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Zelensky noted that in a conversation with the President of the United States, he asked him "not to make any decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine."
