People's Artist of Russia, theater and film actor, director of the Ermolova Moscow Drama Theater Oleg Menshikov positively assessed the film directed by Mikhail Lokshin "The Master and Margarita" based on the novel of the same name by Mikhail Bulgakov. He stated this in the framework of the show "5 books", which is available on RuTube.
"I didn't like the previous film adaptations, at all. Well, such a maintenance of the plot at best," the artist noted.
At the same time, he liked Lokshin's film.
"He claims to be an author's view, an interpretation," Menshikov explained.
He also said that he never answered the question about what role he would like to play.
"Now I really regret that I didn't play Woland," the actor admitted.
As reported by EADaily, the director of "The Master and Margarita" Lokshin lives in the United States, and has repeatedly spoken out on social networks against Russia's special military operation on Ukraine. Moreover, he published a number of posts during the filming of the film. The production companies of the project "Master and Margarita" — "Mars Media" and "Profit" — issued a joint statement. They explained that the film began shooting in 2018, and the entire shooting process was completed in the fall of 2021 — before the start of a special military operation. At the same time, the director, who later began publishing posts in support of Ukraine, went back to the United States, of which he is a citizen.
The Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Lyubimova stated that due to the incorrectly chosen civic position of one of the participants, it is impossible to close a large multi-year project. She clarified that about two hundred people took part in the creation of the painting, for whom the project became a common "child", because of one person it is impossible to leave "the audience without a picture", and the whole team without their brainchild. Lyubimova also stressed that she does not receive any money from the rental of the painting from those people who left.
At the same time, the painting "The Master and Margarita" became the winner of the 38th Nika Award for 2024, receiving prizes in seven nominations.
