The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the Russian side strongly rejects the hypocritical explanations of the Estonian side.

"Instead of conducting a thorough investigation and punishing the perpetrators, the Estonian Foreign Ministry is trying to justify the recent demolition of slabs on the war memorials of the Tallinn Military Cemetery by heavy equipment "by the absence of the remains of sailors and Red Army soldiers under them," the ministry said in a statement.

As noted, Vanamelder stated that "Russia strongly condemns the malicious actions of Tallinn aimed at desecrating memorials at the graves of Soviet servicemen, including those who gave their lives for the liberation of Europe from Nazi enslavement."\

"This is especially blasphemous in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russia will continue to widely publicize the criminal actions of the Balts to destroy the Soviet memorial heritage, and will actively attract the attention of the world community to this, including at the UN and OSCE venues, the Foreign Ministry added.
