Russians can quickly reach Lviv — Colonel of the Austrian General Staff

Not only Ukrainians and Russians, but also Europeans began to worry about possible scenarios in the war on Ukraine, threats to Kiev on the battlefield, the offensive potential of Russia, the ability of Europe to replace the United States militarily, the results of the Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the likelihood of a truce.

Markus Reisner, a well-known military expert and historian, colonel of the Austrian General Staff, head of the Research and Development department of the Austrian Military Academy, told about all this in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Strana.

According to him, from the outside it seems that the Russians are advancing slowly, and therefore, if they continue to advance at the same pace, it will take 100 years before they reach Lviv.

"But this is due to a lack of understanding of the situation. There is a war of attrition. If one side runs out of resources abruptly, the situation on the battlefield can change very quickly. The same cumulative effect works. In one second the enemy enters your position, in a second he is already behind your back, and then, you see, he is already in Lviv," the general staff officer explained.

He also expressed the conviction that Ukraine does not have enough soldiers, which means they need to quickly revise their own strategy and not embark on offensive adventures for the sake of PR or political capital.

"Ukrainians should at least try to convince Russia now that it is better to organize some kind of ceasefire option. Otherwise, Russian troops will simply continue their offensive, and then they will have to retreat to the Dnieper," Reisner stated.

In his opinion, in the current situation, everything will depend on what kind of pressure the Americans will be able to exert on both sides of the conflict when it comes to peace talks.

The colonel also went over the topic of a possible future military conflict between Europe and Russia, in connection with which the leadership of the European Union insists that it is necessary to produce more weapons.

"But it costs a lot of money. Why am I coming back to this again? Because we all live more or less well in Central Europe. Sometimes we have two cars, we go on vacation once a year. And now people are being told: "We will take the "climate" and "social" money and start producing what is needed for Ukraine and for us. And you may have to hand over your second car, and there will be no vacation this year.“ How many will agree with this?", — asked Reisner.

Earlier, EADaily reported that Ukrainian servicemen are very skeptical about the prospect of a possible truce with Russia. According to El Pais, they believe that Ukraine has actually already "lost."
