Slovakia's opposition has failed to achieve the resignation of the Fico government and is preparing a coup

Representatives of the opposition parties of Slovakia left the meeting of the parliament, thereby refusing the vote initiated by them on the issue of confidence in the government of Robert Fico. This was reported by local media.

According to the chairman of the Progressive Slovakia party, Michal Szymecki, the opposition was not satisfied with the closed status of the parliamentary session, which was established on the initiative of the authorities due to the need to read to the deputies excerpts from the secret report of the Slovak Information Service on attempts to destabilize the situation in the country. At the same time, he stressed that the oppositionists would convene a new session of parliament to vote on a vote of no confidence in the government, transferring the signatures of their deputies to the acting Speaker of the National Council, Peter Giga.

In turn, Fico accused the opposition Progressive Slovakia party of preparing for a coup d'etat in the country according to the Ukrainian scenario.

"I can't name names, I can't name circumstances, but I can say with all seriousness that the Slovak opposition is preparing for Maidan. The Slovak opposition is preparing to occupy government buildings, will impede the work of the government and cooperate with foreign forces," the head of the Slovak government said.

The Fico government supports the start of peace talks on Ukraine and the restoration of relations with Russia. This does not suit the local opposition, which on January 15 officially submitted to parliament a proposal for a vote of no confidence in the Cabinet. At the same time, the oppositionists also called on the government of the country to "strictly respect" Bratislava's commitment to the European Union and NATO.
