Poland has raised military aircraft in response to a massive combined strike by the Russian Aerospace Forces on military infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.
Polish fighters have been lifted into the sky, as the targets of the Russian Aerospace Forces have become, among other things, objects in the west of Ukraine. The Polish Defense Ministry said this morning, January 15:
"Attention, in connection with the attack of the Russian Federation on objects located, including in the west of Ukraine, military aviation began operating in our airspace."
Warsaw noted that the steps taken are aimed at ensuring security in the border areas [with Ukraine], and "subordinate forces and means remain in full readiness for immediate response." In addition to fighters, ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems are involved.
