A state of emergency has been declared in Washington on Sunday due to an impending snow storm, according to a statement issued by the office of Mayor Muriel Bowser.
"Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a snow emergency in Washington, D.C.," the report says.
The emergency mode in the American capital has been established since Sunday and will be in effect until the end of January 7. All car owners should remove their cars as soon as possible, if they are parked along the routes of emergency services, in order to avoid their forced evacuation.
Earlier, CNN reported that a powerful winter storm threatens about 62 million residents of the central and eastern United States and will bring with it significant snowfalls, dangerous ice, rains and severe thunderstorms.
At least a dozen states are expected to be affected by these weather conditions, with power outages likely to occur in large areas. Severe thunderstorms may occur in warm states.
