President Andrzej Duda recently received an unexpected petition. The applicant demands to change the color of the Polish flag. How did he explain this idea? This is told by the Gazeta publication.
On December 14, the office of Polish President Andrzej Duda received a petition to change the color of the national flag. According to the author, the red color should be replaced with crimson (a shade of dark red). Thus, the applicant wants to distinguish the symbol of Poland from analogues from other countries.
In the petition to President Duda, you can read that the crimson color was a symbol of the greatness, power and strength of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This shade of red is also allegedly associated with dignity and respect. The author of the petition emphasizes that in Polish literature and art the crimson color was a symbol of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
The applicant's argument is the identity of Poland in the international arena. The person who addressed the president explained that the current red is similar to the color of the flag of the Czech Republic, Monaco and Indonesia.
"The change to crimson will highlight our flag and emphasize the country's identity," the document says.
The letter also concludes that the color change will be "a step towards deepening national identity and strengthening our identity."
"I ask you to consider this proposal and take appropriate legislative measures to implement this change," the applicant, who wished to remain anonymous, writes at the end of the petition.
