Norwegian reindeer have been on the Russian side of the Norwegian-Russian border for several months and have not returned home. This is reported by the Nordnytt publication.
We are talking about about 30 deer who "spent a little more time abroad than usual." The owners of the animals are tracking them by GPS, but cannot cross the border to bring them home.
"It happens almost every winter. Since there are places where the fence is not completed, they go to Russia. But they're coming back. But now we have those who have crossed the fence from the Russian side, so they will no longer return (themselves)," said Egil Kalliyainen, head of the 5a and 5c reindeer herding districts.
The authorities have not yet taken any action, but the management has contacted the Norwegian Border Commissariat.
