South Korean President Yun Sok Yeol held an emergency meeting on security issues today to discuss the transfer of units of the DPRK army to Russia to participate in a special operation on Ukraine. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the statement of the office of the president.
The meeting discussed "information about the recent movement of North Korean troops in Russia and their support for the war," the statement said. It does not specify how many military personnel were sent and what their role is, the agency reports. According to the statement, the deployment poses a "serious security threat" to South Korea and the international community.
"South Korean intelligence agencies believe that Pyongyang recently decided to send 12,000 troops to Ukraine, Yonhap reports. The transfer of troops has begun, Yonhap news agency reports, citing an unnamed official from South Korea's intelligence agency.
The deployment of troops, if confirmed, would be an important step in Pyongyang's cooperation with Moscow after Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed in June to provide immediate military assistance in the event of an attack on one of them. North Korea has about 1.28 million active military personnel, according to the South Korean Defense White Paper," the note says.
Earlier, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, said that North Korea was preparing to send 10,000 troops to help Russia.
As EADaily reported, a new information campaign is gaining momentum in Ukraine. Reports are actively spreading that allegedly thousands of DPRK soldiers will soon be fighting on the side of Russia against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is being trumpeted by the Ukrainian media, the head of the Maidan regime, Vladimir Zelensky, touched on this topic several times.
