The passage of citizens on the Abkhaz-Georgian border will be suspended from October 23 to October 30 — this decision was made by the Security Council of Abkhazia on October 18.
The restrictive measures were initiated by the State Security Service of Abkhazia and are related to possible provocations by radical forces during the parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 26.
The Security Council approved the initiative of the State Security Service, making an exception for the return to Abkhazia of citizens of the republic and persons with a residence permit who had previously legally entered Georgia.
The power structures of Abkhazia will strengthen their work during the elections in Georgia.
Security Council Secretary Raul Lolua called the initiative of the State Security Service correct.
"We need to be vigilant in terms of countering various provocative activities," he said.
The West wants anti-Russian candidates who insist on opening a second front in Abkhazia to win the elections in Georgia, Lolua added.
As reported by EADaily, earlier the authorities of South Ossetia announced the closure of crossing points on the border with Georgia. The republic fears an aggravation of the situation due to the Georgian elections.
