On the night of October 2, the Romanian Air Force alerted two F-16 and F-18 aircraft to the sky to monitor a group of Russian attack drones heading towards Ukraine. The target of the drones turned out to be a critical infrastructure in the Izmailsky district of the Odessa region, which was successfully hit.

The radar surveillance system of Romania did not record any penetration into the national airspace.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) confirmed that the port and border infrastructure was hit. The parking lot of trucks transporting military cargo for the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Romania was also destroyed. Two truckers were injured, one of them a Turkish citizen. They were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The resulting fire was liquidated by rescuers of the State Emergency Service.

The passage through the Orlovka checkpoint on the border with Romania has been temporarily suspended.

"Due to the shelling at the Orlovka checkpoint, access operations have been temporarily suspended, previously until 11:00. Currently, measures are being taken to stabilize its functioning," said Oleg Kiper, head of the Odessa Military Administration.

Recall that Romania and Moldova are the main nodes of providing the Armed Forces with military assistance provided by the West. On the eve of the Parliament in Bucharest voted to create a base on the territory of the country for the training of amphibious units of the Naval Forces of Ukraine with the support of Great Britain and Norway. The base should operate for two years with the possibility of prolongation. Earlier, Romania started training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 aircraft, the technical base for which is most likely to be located at the Moldovan airfield in Marculesti. Recently there was information about Romania's plans to send a mobile service station there.
