The United States plans to announce military assistance to Kiev in the amount of more than $ 8 billion on Thursday during the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Washington. This was reported today by Reuters with reference to two American officials.

According to sources, the Joe Biden administration is currently in urgent discussions with Congress to transfer military aid to Ukraine for $ 5.6 billion by September 30 — until the end of the federal fiscal year.

It is planned to allocate another $ 2.4 billion in assistance under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, which allows the administration to buy weapons for Kiev from companies, rather than extracting them from US stocks.

This assistance will include ammunition, anti-drone weapons and materials to support the production of ammunition on Ukraine, said one of the American officials.
