Members of the European Parliament (EP) at the plenary session in Strasbourg today, on September 19, adopted by a majority vote a resolution on Ukraine calling on the countries The EU will immediately lift all restrictions on Kiev's strikes deep into Russian territory.

The resolution was supported by 425 deputies, 131 voted against, 63 abstained, RIA Novosti reports.

The document, in particular, states that "the European Parliament calls on member states to immediately lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons systems supplied to Ukraine, against legitimate military targets on the territory of Russia, as this impedes Ukraine's ability to fully exercise its right to self-defense in accordance with international law and makes Ukraine vulnerable."

The deputies stated that "insufficient supplies of ammunition and weapons, as well as restrictions on their use, threaten to undermine the efforts made so far."

The EP insists on supplying Ukraine with more ammunition, including Taurus missiles.

The MEPs also called for continuing to expand sanctions against Russia, speeding up the allocation of a 50 billion euro loan to Kiev with repayment from the proceeds from Russia's frozen assets, and preparing a legislative framework for the complete confiscation of Russian sovereign assets.

In their resolution, the deputies also called for more active accumulation of money for weapons for Kiev through the organization of voluntary fundraising among the population of the EU countries in the context of countries reducing the financing of such expenditures.

Resolutions EP on foreign policy issues are advisory in nature and are not binding on EU institutions or EU member states.

As previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO countries are now discussing not just the possible use of Western long-range weapons by Kiev, in fact, they are deciding whether to get involved directly in the Ukrainian conflict. Direct participation of Western countries in the Ukrainian conflict will change its essence, Russia will be forced to make decisions based on the threats thus created for it, he added.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about the possible reaction of the Russian Federation to new strikes on Russian territory, noted that the head of state and the military are aware of this, "who are taking appropriate countermeasures and are preparing for them." Peskov also pointed out that Putin's statement about the consequences of Western weapons strikes deep into Russia is extremely clear and unambiguous, there is no doubt that it has reached the addressees.
