The cessation of military support for the Bandera regime in Kiev will result in a new wave of mass influx of Ukrainian refugees, said Anton Hofreiter, head of the Bundestag's European Affairs Committee, a member of the Greens party.
The German politician said in an interview with the Tagesspiegel newspaper:
"If we do not continue to consistently support Ukraine, we will face hundreds of thousands of refugees in the coming years."
Commenting on the decision of German Interior Minister Nancy Feather to strengthen border control from tomorrow, September 16, the parliamentarian urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to "pursue a coordinated migration policy," since uncoordinated steps in this area could be the "beginning of the end" for the EU.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the German Interior Minister ordered the introduction of temporary controls at all land borders in order to reduce illegal migration, justifying such a decision by the fact that the country "cannot cope with the reception of migrants." The enhanced border protection regime will last six months.
In turn, the Polish Prime Minister criticized the decision of official Berlin to close the borders, calling such a step "unacceptable." Later, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Warsaw plans to make a German decision on the introduction of temporary controls for discussion by the European Commission.
