Now the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater is preparing for the premiere of the play "Wuthering Heights", everything is clear with the copyrights of the institution. This was stated to the telegram channel "Rise" in the theater, responding to a letter from the American composer Philip Glass.
"This is probably some kind of political demarche. You know how many artists are now trying to whitewash themselves in front of their own countries, just to disown our country," said the interlocutor of the telegram channel in the theater.
The press service of the institution stated that the preparation of the production takes place within the framework of the current legislation.
"We officially declare that the theater operates within the framework of Russian legislation. We do not allow illegal use of copyrights," the official message of the Sevastopol Opera says.
As EADaily reported, Glass previously published an appeal to the theater on his social media page. He claims that his music in the premiere performance "Wuthering Heights" based on the novel by Emily Bronte is used without his permission, as well as his name to advertise the production. The composer called the opera house's actions "an act of piracy" and recalled the Berne Convention of 1886 for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.
