Support for Ukraine is a matter of Germany's responsibility to its own history. This was stated at the Memorial Center of the German Resistance in Berlin in a speech on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944 by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"In 2024, we cannot celebrate this on July 20 without remembering the brave citizens of Ukraine who have been resisting the criminal Russian aggressive war for more than two years. (This is a war) with the help of which the Russian rulers pursue the declared goal of conquering Ukraine and destroying it as a sovereign state," Scholz said without hesitation, quoted by the telegram channel "DW❶ main".
"There can be only one possible position for Germany in this situation, at least out of a sense of responsibility to its own history, on the side of Ukraine," the German Chancellor added.
