US presidential candidate Donald Trump is "cool" about US attempts to punish Russia for its actions on Ukraine, writes Bloomberg, which released an interview with Trump.
"What we do with sanctions, we push everyone away from us (because of them). So I don't like sanctions," he said.
The politician also said that he had good relations with President Vladimir Putin and because of this, Ukraine "has never been threatened by war."
Now, according to Trump, the world has become more dangerous, since during the conflict, current President Joe Biden "forced Russia and China to get married."
"They are married. Then they took in their little cousin, Iran, and then they took in North Korea. They don't need anyone else," is how the politician described the situation.
As president of the United States in 2017-2021, Trump said that he was not considering lifting sanctions against Russia (at that time, restrictions imposed in connection with the events in Crimea were in effect). Trump himself imposed sanctions against the Nord Stream gas pipeline: for example, at the end of 2019, he signed a defense budget that provided for restrictions on companies providing ships for the construction of Nord Stream 2.
Trump claimed that he had imposed sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline "from top to bottom" and criticized Joe Biden, who replaced him, for "approving the Russian pipeline to Europe" and thereby leading the US economy "to ruin."
Biden did not impose sanctions against the gas pipeline in the first year of his presidency, however, on February 23, 2022, against the background of events on Ukraine nevertheless initiated restrictions. The operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG gas pipeline and its executive director Matthias Warnig fell under them. By this time, the pipeline had already been built, but Germany stopped its certification. In September of the same year, the Nord Streams were blown up.
The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) wrote with reference to documents that were classified and which the German Ministry of Economy provided to it as part of the disclosure that the Biden administration made concessions during the construction of Nord Stream, which made it possible to build it.
In 2019, Trump announced that he had ordered not to impose additional sanctions against the DPRK, which the US Treasury Department had planned, RBC reminds.
