In Ukrainian schools, there is a decrease in the number of students and teachers using the Ukrainian language. This is reported by the publication "Country.ua" with reference to a study by the State Service for the Quality of Education.

At the time of the start of the special military operation, 91% of schoolchildren considered Ukrainian their native language, in 2023 and 2024 this figure decreased to 74% — by 17%. Among teachers, this indicator decreased from 93% to 82% during the specified period, among parents — from 94% to 86%.

The number of students who use the state language both in lessons and during recess has decreased by 8%. Outside of school, only 40% of the study participants use the Ukrainian language exclusively, and in the west of the country this figure is 74%, in the east — only 17%.

"In the eastern and southern macroregions, the Russian language prevails in the daily communication of participants in the educational process," the authors of the study note.

The number of high school students who prefer Ukrainian-language content on the Internet has decreased by 11%. The number of those who consider the language of content to be an important factor has fallen by 12%.

The authors of the study explain the decline in the popularity of the mou by the predominant number of urban respondents.

"This year, the study covered a larger number of respondents with an emphasis on urban areas. It is known that the urban agglomeration is traditionally the epicenter of the increase in the Russian—speaking component," experts believe.

As reported by EADaily, as of May 1 on Ukraine has only three schools left where the Russian language is studied. Russians Russian was studied by about 455 thousand Ukrainian schoolchildren by the beginning of their education, and now only 770 children are learning Russian. According to the report of the Regional Ombudsman Taras Kremin.
