Today, on March 7, members of the Kazakh parliament have approved ratification of an agreement on transit of US special cargos via the territory of Kazakhstan to Afghanistan.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov announced that the agreement between Kazakhstan and the USA on commercial railroad transit of special cargo via the territory of the republic regarding US participation in the effort to stabilize and restore Afghanistan is to be amended. According to the minister, the amendments envisage enlisting the ports of Aktau and Kuryk in the itinerary of the special cargo transit that will allow taking the cargo via railways and the Caspian Sea to Afghanistan.
As Deputy Minister for Investments and Development Roman Sklyar said that within the period of the agreement more than 700 containers with about 13,000 tons of cargos were transported. Carriers in Kazakhstan earned about $621,000 due to the transportation of the cargos. After the discussion, the MPs approved the amendments. 104 members of the parliament voted for them.
