Warsaw and Helsinki intend to restore the marshes for protection on the border with Russia. Both Finland and Poland, according to Politico, plan to isolate themselves from the alleged Russian threat in this way.
"On the eastern flank of NATO, the restoration of marshes will be a relatively cheap and simple measure that will simultaneously achieve the goals of the European Union (EU) in the field of nature conservation and defense," the source writes.
The swampy area in the newspaper's editorial office is considered impassable for tanks and heavy military equipment. But it is not yet known how much money will be spent on waterlogging previously drained peat bogs.
