China has unveiled an arsenal of microwave weapons capable of shooting down Starlink satellites. It is reported by the newspaper South China Morning Post.

Chinese military scientists claim that this technology can threaten low-Earth orbit satellite networks, such as Starlink, at an extremely low cost.

"According to military scientists, Chinese high-energy microwave (HPM) weapons can produce up to 100 gigawatts (GW) of power — this is a milestone that can change the future of warfare and stimulate the development of civilian research and industry," the publication says.

The article by researchers from the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), led by Zhang Jun, was published in the journal High Power Laser and Particle Beams this month. In it, the authors described in detail a series of advanced pulse devices created by the Chinese military in recent years. This is a rare disclosure by the Chinese army of information about its powerful microwave arsenal.

"Pulsed power drivers for HPM generation have moved from laboratory prototypes to practical applications, gradually evolving from 'functional' to 'high—performance' and 'long-lasting' systems," the article says.

If these super-powerful microwave weapons are used for anti-satellite purposes, they can threaten expensive satellite networks in low-Earth orbit, such as Starlink, at extremely low cost, especially in military operations. "It is well known that powerful microwave pulses with a power of 1 gigawatt (GW) can cause serious interference or even damage to the hardware of satellites in low Earth orbit," the newspaper notes.

According to scientists, Chinese research institutes have developed a wide range of gigawatt-class weapons, some of which have already been delivered to users. The most notable of them is a 100 GW class device consisting of several high—power pulse generators. This system combines several pulses to create unprecedented high power with the potential for further scaling.

"Achieving tens of gigawatts of HPM power under strict space and weight constraints represents a critical future for HPM technology," the study authors noted.

Future research priorities include improving the accuracy of energy beam control and reducing the size and cost of the system, the newspaper summarizes.

As reported by EADaily, China and Russia are working on a Starlink destruction system. This is stated in the investigation of The Insider journalists, Le Monde and Der Spiegel, Polish radio station RMF24 reported.
