The commander of the US helicopter squadron HSC-5 "Nightdippers" (Night Divers), Commander Gabriel Edwards, disappeared during a military operation against Iran in the Arabian Sea. This is reported by the American army newspaper Stars and Stripes.
Edwards was one of four crew members of the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter that made a hard landing on water in the Arabian Sea on July 1. Three pilots were rescued.
The search for Edwards was conducted for 102 hours on an area of more than 14 thousand square miles, but on July 5 it was stopped. He is officially considered dead.
The information is confirmed by the US Navy. Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Kao announced that he will be posthumously awarded the rank of captain.
