Due to the APU strikes on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant (OGPZ), Kazakhstan was forced to reduce gas production at the Karachaganak field. This is reported by Interfax.
The reduction is due to the incident at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, which occurred after the drone attack on June 24, 2026. Because of this, the plant temporarily reduced the intake of Kazakh gas.
Mining on Karachaganake was reduced from 34 to 25 thousand tons per day. Thus, the reduction amounted to 9 thousand tons per day. This is approximately 26.5% of the previous production level.
The Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenov assured that, despite the forced reduction in production, gas supply in the country was not affected. All gas supply obligations are fulfilled in full. For this, logistics chains were adjusted and alternative fuel sources were involved.
Crude gas from Karachaganak contains impurities and is sent for processing in Orenburg. After cleaning, some of the volumes are returned to Kazakhstan is already in the form of commercial gas. Therefore, the problems at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant directly affect production at Karachaganake.
It is worth noting that this is not the first such case. In the autumn of 2025, due to a similar attack on the Orenburg gas processing Plant, Kazakhstan was already forced to reduce production by Karachaganak by 25-30%.
