The European Union has excluded from the final statement of the summit the provision on speeding up Ukraine's accession to the EU. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar.
"On my initiative, at the very last moment, the provision on accelerating the integration of Ukraine was removed from the text. It was not easy," he wrote following the meeting of the European Council.
According to him, in a few weeks of preparation, the declaration on Ukraine was significantly changed taking into account the proposals of Hungary. He also noted that the final document was adopted unanimously by all EU countries for the first time in a year and a half.
Recall, earlier in Kiev rejoiced at the victory of Peter Magyar's Tisa party in the recent elections in Hungary. However, it turned out that his position on Ukraine is close to that of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In particular, the Magyar forced Kiev to agree to the special status of the Hungarian minority in exchange for the start of the first cluster on negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. However, he opposed the rapid opening of all other negotiation clusters.
