The Russian Ka-50 attack helicopter, known in the West under the code name Hokum (translated as "Deceiver"), is still remembered as one of the most formidable machines in the history of army aviation. The editorial board of RIA Novosti in a recent article described in detail the arsenal of this legendary "Black Shark", noting that the creators literally saturated it with deadly weapons.
According to the observer Andrei Kotz, the main caliber of the helicopter was the anti-tank guided missiles "Whirlwind", capable of destroying armored vehicles and fortifications at a distance of up to ten kilometers. In addition to them, the Ka-50 could use a whole range of unguided missile weapons. We are talking about blocks with 80-millimeter C-8 and more powerful 122-millimeter C-13.
For air combat, the machine was equipped with Igla-V air-to-air missiles, as well as high-precision X-25ML for hitting point targets. The built-in automatic gun 2A42 caliber 30 millimeters with 460 shells complemented this impressive set.
The Black Shark made its first flight back in 1982, but by 2009 the production of the single-seat Ka-50 was curtailed, giving way to the more modern double-seat Ka-52, which is still in service.
