Eleven parachutists and a pilot were killed in a plane crash near the airport in Butler, Missouri. This is reported by CNN with reference to local authorities.
The plane, which took off from Butler Memorial Airport at about 11.20 am local time, was unable to gain altitude, turned sharply to the left and crashed about 300 meters from the runway, acting airport manager and Bates County Emergency Management Director Dennis Jacobs told CNN.
Since the plane had just taken off, it did not reach the altitude to contact the dispatcher, Jacobs said.
"Officials examined the crash site on foot and by drone to find out if anyone survived, but no one was able to jump out of the plane before it crashed, Jacobs said," the TV channel reports.
We are talking about a single-engine turboprop aircraft company Skydive Kansas City. After the crash, it caught fire. The accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified of the incident.
The names of those on board have not yet been disclosed, as their families have not yet been notified of the incident.
According to the American Parachute Association, over the past decade there have been eight fatal plane crashes involving parachutists, which killed 25 people.
