US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the Russians on Russia Day.
"On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the Russian people on Russia Day. The United States remains committed to advancing a peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war. We remain hopeful that lasting peace will pave the way for a more prosperous future for the Russian people and more constructive relations between our two countries," the message of greetings reads.
Rubio's predecessor Anthony Blinken last congratulated the Russians on Russia Day in 2022, a few months after the start of the fighting on Ukraine. He wished Russian citizens a "more peaceful, open future" and the opportunity to "express their opinions and peacefully participate in civil and political activities in their country."
