In the French region of Gers, near Fleurence, the body of eleven-year-old Lehanna, who disappeared a week ago, was found. This is reported by Entrevue.fr .
"Exact information about the condition of the body, the date of death and the circumstances of the discovery has not yet been disclosed. Additional examinations will be conducted to establish the identity of the deceased," the note says.
The girl disappeared on May 29, after she left Hubert-Reeves High School in the city of Fleurance. She was last seen at the beginning of the fourth day near the school in the car of a 41-year-old man. Her family reported the child missing a few hours later. The possibility that the girl disappeared voluntarily was ruled out, since she had never run away from home before and investigators had no evidence to support this theory.
The man seen with Lihanna turned out to be the father of one of the schoolgirl's friends, knew the girl and her family. He was arrested the day after the girl's disappearance, and on June 1 he was formally charged with kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment of a minor under the age of 15. The suspect is in custody. During the detention, he claimed that he had dropped Lihanna off near the pool in Flurance, and when he appeared before the judge, he refused to answer any questions.
The girl was searched in the vicinity of Flerens and neighboring towns — in forests, agricultural land, water bodies. Divers, mounted police, cynological units and mobile units of gendarmes participated in the operations.
French politicians, including far-right leader Jordan Bardella and Green Party leader Marine Tondelier, point to this case as an example of the dysfunction of the justice system and its inability to protect women and children from sexual violence.
"As a minister, I am horrified, and as a father, even more so, by this terrible tragedy that is unfolding," Justice Minister Gerald Darmanen told reporters on Thursday evening.
The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct a joint investigation to clarify the alleged violations, he added.
