A court in Sweden has decided to hand over to Ukraine a captured Russian vessel that was exporting grain from the territories of Novorossiya, Reuters reports.
In March, the Swedish police and Coast Guard detained the bulk carrier Caffa off the southern coast of the country in the Baltic Sea. The reason for the arrest was the fact that it was allegedly sailing under a false flag, violated the laws on the safety of navigation and the vessel itself, since it was unsuitable for navigation due to its technical condition.
The Swedish court recognized the detention of the cargo ship as legitimate and decided to transfer it to Ukraine, where it is suspected of illegally transporting grain from territories annexed to Russia, the agency points out.
"The court confirmed that the arrest of the Caffa vessel ... was lawful and it can be transferred to Ukraine," prosecutor Hakan Larsson told Reuters.
Earlier, the owner of the bulk carrier, Caffa Shipping Limited, challenged the arrest. Now she has three weeks to file an appeal, the prosecutor said.
