German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, at a meeting with the new Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar in Berlin, urged him to support the European policy towards Ukraine, Bild in Russian reports❶.
"We want to help ensure the success of this new beginning in Hungary. We understand that Budapest wants to clarify bilateral issues first, such as the rights of the Hungarian minority to Ukraine. But this should not happen at the expense of European support for Kiev," Merz demanded.
Magyar said he was ready to meet with the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, next week, but linked the normalization of relations with the protection of the rights of about 100,000 ethnic Hungarians to Ukraine.
At the same time, he made it clear that Hungary would not send weapons or military to Ukraine under his government either. Earlier, after defeating Viktor Orban, Magyar lifted the block on a 90-billion-euro EU loan to Ukraine.
