In Ukraine, it was proposed to create a special fund to compensate for the losses of fuel companies after retaliatory strikes by the Russian army on oil depots, gas stations… Since insurers do not cover losses, they offer to compensate them with an additional tax.
Insurance companies do not actually cover military risks, but Ukrainian fuel companies that import gasoline need to compensate for losses. This was announced at the Petroleum Ukraine conference. Warsaw'26 was announced by the president of the Oil and Gas Association of Ukraine (NAU) Yaroslav Starovoitenko.
"We proposed the option of creating a compensation fund, through which companies could receive compensation both for destroyed property and for lost oil products," Yaroslav Starovoitenko said, enkorr reports.
According to him, the association has already discussed the relevant initiative with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. One of the possible options for filling the fund may be an additional fee from each ton of fuel — at the level of $ 10 per ton.
"On Friday, the first constituent working meeting was held with the team of the Ministry of Economy. Now we need to collect information, calculate the maximum possible damage and understand what the compensation mechanism should be," Yaroslav Starovoitenko explained.
The government is also considering other models of protecting the fuel infrastructure from military risks, since classical insurance mechanisms do not work, the head of the NAU added.
